How evaluations work

Insurance and payment

Three ways clients pay for therapy.

If you are unsure where your plan fits, ask me before you book and we will figure it out together.

Most of my practice is out of network. Adult autism evaluations are self-pay, and you can pay by HSA, FSA, credit, or debit card at the time of service. For therapy sessions, these are the three routes clients use.

01

Private pay

The most common route. You pay $325 at the time of each session, book directly, and skip the insurance paperwork entirely.

02

Limited insurance spots through Alma

I hold a limited number of therapy spots through Alma for UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Cigna, and Optum plans. Ask about availability before you book. I can confirm whether I have an opening through Alma and whether your specific plan is one Alma accepts.

03

Out-of-network reimbursement

If your plan includes out-of-network mental health benefits, I will provide a superbill you can submit for reimbursement. Reimbursement is usually based on your plan's allowed amount, which may be less than the full fee.

Before we start, it is worth one call to your plan. Ask whether you have out-of-network mental health benefits, what your deductible is, and what percentage of the allowed amount they reimburse.

You have the right to a Good Faith Estimate. If you do not have insurance, or do not plan to use insurance to pay for your care, you may be entitled to a written estimate of expected charges. Providers generally must give one when you request it or schedule care at least three business days in advance. If a bill from a provider is at least $400 more than that provider's estimate, you may be able to dispute it. Read the CMS guidance about Good Faith Estimates.

How often we meet

Most clients meet weekly. For many new clients, meeting weekly for the first six weeks gives us enough continuity to understand the pattern and begin the work. We can discuss whether that cadence fits your situation.

Where I work

All sessions are online. I work with clients in New York and Connecticut, where I am licensed, and in Florida, where I am registered to provide telehealth.

Before the first session

Once you book, I will email you my practice paperwork to complete, then send the video link for our scheduled session.

Reaching me

The contact form is the fastest way to ask a question. I respond during the week as soon as I can.

Before booking

Questions people ask before they book.

If your question is missing, send it through the contact form.

What does a session cost?

Every therapy or evaluation session is $325. A therapy booking begins with a full therapy session; an evaluation booking begins with the first evaluation appointment.

Do you offer a free consultation?

I do not offer free consultation calls. Most questions about my process and approach are answered on this website, and if it feels like we may be a good fit, you can schedule directly. If something is unclear, send a note through the contact form and I will give you a straight answer.

Do you take insurance?

I am primarily an out-of-network provider. A limited number of therapy spots are available through Alma for UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Cigna, and Optum plans, and for everyone else I provide superbills you can submit for out-of-network reimbursement. Adult autism evaluations are self-pay.

How much will my plan reimburse for out-of-network sessions?

It depends on your benefits. Reimbursement is usually based on your plan's allowed amount, which may be less than the full $325 fee. Before we start, ask your plan whether you have out-of-network mental health benefits, what your deductible is, and what percentage of the allowed amount they cover.

Where are you located?

My practice is fully virtual. I see clients throughout New York and Connecticut, where I am licensed, and Florida, where I am registered to provide telehealth.

Do you offer in-person sessions?

All sessions are online. We meet by video from whatever private space works for you.

How does online therapy work?

Once we schedule, you will receive practice paperwork by email. When it is complete, I will send a secure video link for the appointment. At the scheduled time, you join from a private place in the state where you are receiving services.

How often will we meet?

Most clients meet weekly. For many new clients, meeting weekly for the first six weeks gives us enough continuity to understand the pattern and begin the work. We can discuss whether that cadence fits your situation.

How long will I need to be in therapy?

I cannot answer that honestly in a general FAQ. It depends on what brings you in, what you want to accomplish, and your own pace. We will check in often about whether the frequency of sessions, and therapy itself, still makes sense for you.

How do adult autism evaluation costs work?

Each evaluation session is $325, and most evaluations take two to five sessions ($650 to $1,625 in session fees). An optional written report with findings and recommendations is an additional $950. Evaluations are self-pay, and you can use an HSA, FSA, credit, or debit card. The evaluation page walks through the whole process.

What is the difference between therapy and talking to a friend?

A good friend matters, and therapy serves a different purpose. I bring clinical training, ask questions a friend may not know to ask, and help you look at patterns over time. I treat what you share as confidential within the legal and ethical limits that apply to therapy. It also gives your friendships room to remain friendships.

What if I live outside New York, Connecticut, or Florida?

For therapy, I can only work with clients in the states where I am licensed or registered, so New York, Connecticut, and Florida. If you live elsewhere, my self-paced courses are open to anyone: one for parents of sensitive children, and one for adults wondering whether they are autistic.

What if I am not ready for therapy?

That is a real option, and therapy is not the right step for everyone. If you want support without scheduling sessions, a self-paced course may be useful, and the blog covers many of the questions clients bring to a first session.

Another way to start

Support that does not require a session.

Therapy is a real investment, and for some people there are practical barriers right now. If you want parenting support on your own schedule, I made a therapist-led course: Helping Your Sensitive Child Manage Big Feelings (Without Adding to Your Own Anxiety). You can work through it at your own pace, from anywhere.
